![]() She wants to do the same for someone else, be there for them and help them hoping that they will do the same for somebody else. She served as an informal mentor to Alaa, and because of that experience, Alaa developed an appreciation for the role of mentorship. Alaa felt overwhelmed by the application process since it is completely different from anything she had done before, but a student she met in Colorado during her internship helped her through it. With this, she knew that she wanted to join the PhD program she is in now. In 2018, Alaa came for an internship at CU Anschutz and realized that she really enjoyed working in the lab and still wanted to learn more. In Egypt, she completed both her Bachelor's and Master's in pharmaceutical sciences. She was born and raised in Egypt and just moved to Colorado in 2019, when she started graduate school. When she is not in the lab, or hiking, or camping, or playing with her two cats, she can be found writing poetry-her second (third?) love.Īlaa Radwan is a graduate student at CU Anschutz in the Pharmaceutical Sciences program. It is her goal to pass on the excellent advice and assistance she received to others who may not feel like they have a place in academia. As a first-generation college student who is both queer and Jewish, the mentorship she found was invaluable to her journey as a person and as a scientist. in Cell Biology & Neuroscience, with certificates in Russian and Comparative Literature, from Douglass Women's College at Rutgers University in 2019. Though she began her college studies at University of Wisconsin-Madison, Nora graduated with her B.A. She is currently studying how viral infection affects cellular architecture and cellular biophysics in the labs of Dr. From the big outdoors ecosystems to the microscopic cellular interactions, Nora has always found viruses fascinating. She is from Anchorage, Alaska and grew up in the "outdoors," as nature is referred to in her home state. Nora Laine Herzog is a Microbiology graduate student in her second year at the NYU Vilcek Institute. Anna is interested in magnetic resonance spectroscopy approaches to elucidate biomarkers of neurodegeneration, with the hope that this technique can soon be translated to the clinic for early detection of disease. She is currently a fourth-year graduate student in the lab of Ivan Kirov at the NYU School of Medicine. As a result, she sees the value in mentoring and hopes to help others find their passions. With the help of many mentors along her academic journey, she developed a passion for clinical neuroimaging - a field she never knew existed when she had entered college. Over the course of her undergraduate career, she realized she learned more through her research internships and assistantships than she did from her coursework, and thus began pursuing different laboratory positions to gain an interdisciplinary understanding of science. in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Neuroscience. In 2016, she graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.Sc. Lucie also loves to travel to discover new landscapes, new cultures, new people.Īnna was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. Besides the lab, she loves being outside and kitesurfing and snowboarding, as well as karate and climbing. During my PhD and postdoc she got the opportunity to mentor 4 students during their internship and loved this opportunity to share what she learned with them and, actually learnt a lot from it herself! Lucie also participated in the creation of numeric tools to help students in the Biochemistry program of her University in France. Lucie is now studying the immune response and the microbiota in the context of Crohn’s disease and COVID-19 in the Cadwell lab. As she wanted to develop new technical skills and experience living in another country, she moved in 2020 in New-York for my postdoc. She looked further into it during her PhD in Toulouse, where she specialized in the interaction between microbes from the microbiota and the immune system in the context of Tuberculosis, a disease still very common in poor countries. Lucie is a French scientist who found her passion for science at the end of high school in her Biology class, before deciding to study Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Montpellier in France.
